Patton Stands With Rand

I get to stay up late tonight...for a civics lesson. My human has been watching a thing called a filibuster for 10 hours. She says that this is a historic moment that she has waited for her entire life. I made the mistake of asking, “Why is it historic and why is it important?”

According to my human, the filibuster has always been around but is not always used like it is today. Senator Rand Paul is using the power of the filibuster to get answers for the American people from that man in the White House my human calls the, “Petulant President”. She says that what he is doing is historic because he is specifically calling on the President to answer in a clear way that's easy to understand his policy when it comes to those drones thingys. I'm not sure what a drone is, but Shasta says they shouldn't be used on American Citizens by our own government.

My human says it's important because this is a “true civics lesson”. This filibuster is a demonstration of how our system works. They have explained the Fifth Amendment and how it applies, the Fourth Amendment and how it applies and how our government was set up so that no one branch of government had more power than another branch. She says that the people needed to hear those things because maybe they didn't know or had forgotten.

My human says that this is also a “real filibuster”. What she means is that Senator Rand Paul has stood on the floor and kept talking except to take questions from other Senators. She says that he would have to do something called “yielding” for it to stop or that the Senate leader would have to get at least 60 signatures on a petition from other Senators asking that it stop. She says that Harry Reid guy tried to stop it several hours ago but that Senator Paul didn't fall for the trick.

I'm still not sure what it's about, but I do understand that the filibuster is a powerful tool for getting the attention of the American people and I know enough to know that is a REALLY BIG DEAL! So, I say:

Earn What You Want

Why do I get in trouble for tearing things up and the occupy people don’t?  Every time I get into the house plants or try to get in the closet to Candi’s shoes, I get in trouble.  But last night I saw pictures on the TV about those occupy people throwing things at people and buildings and nobody was getting into any trouble.  It just doesn’t make sense to me.

Shasta was telling me that the people who threw a brick through the lady’s back windshield don’t care about other people’s property.  She said they think because they’re entitled to the same things other people worked for, they can damage what those other people have.  It’s sort of like when our human first brought me home and I thought I should have Shasta’s food.  I think that’s what she means.

Anyway, Candi and Shasta have been telling me how important it is to earn what you get.  For example, when I behave nicely and do what Candi says…I get a treat.  When I’m bad and don’t listen to her…I get a timeout.  But this makes me wonder why these people seem to think they can behave anyway they want to and get whatever they want.  If I have to earn my treats, why shouldn’t they?  Did their humans not teach them that you have to earn what you get?

Rosen Needs A Timeout

Sometimes I do things that I’m not supposed to do.  When that happens, my human Candi puts me in a timeout.  She says that I’m to stay in there and think about what I’ve done.  I can’t watch TV, play with toys or even play with Shasta.  It’s really boring. 

What I don’t get is why adults don’t get timeout when they do or say something bad.  You know, like last night when that woman said that thing about that other woman that doesn’t work.  Candi was really mad.  She said that the woman on TV has no idea what it means to be a real mom or woman.  I don’t like it when Candi gets mad.

Shasta said the woman’s name was Rosen and that she is one of those women who hates men.  I’m not sure what that means, but it doesn’t sound very good.  Anyway, if she really believes that stuff she said, shouldn’t she be in timeout and made to think about the bad things she said?  Why does she get away with saying mean things about people? 

My human said the woman apologized today but that it was a fake apology.  I think she should get two timeouts.  One for what she said and one because she didn’t mean it when she said she was sorry.  Yep, that Rosen woman definitely needs two timeouts in this puppy’s opinion!

Trying To Learn My Lessons

I’m trying to learn everything my human wants me to learn.  I really am.  But I just don’t understand some things.  Shasta says that I will never understand humans.  There is one thing that confuses me most.  Why do humans get mad when someone is trying to keep what belongs to them or keep from getting beat up?

There was this thing that my human was watching on TV and she said that everyone was mad at the wrong person.  She said that people need to know the facts about stuff before the do something called “jumping to conclusions”.  I don’t really know what that means.  I just know that when I do something wrong and I get hurt by Shasta…she doesn’t get mad at Shasta, she gets mad at me and puts me in timeout.  I really hate timeout!

Would it be ok to put those media type people in timeout?  Shasta says they are the biggest part of the problem.  She says that they report their opinion and not the facts.  Shasta also said that those political type people are just as bad.  They should go in timeout, too!!!!  Candi said that if we did that, there wouldn’t be anybody else left on TV and that the place she went to the other day would be empty.

I think what I’m supposed to be learning is to wait and study all the facts before biting somebody and that if I do something wrong I should be ready to go into timeout instead of the other dog.  Just one question…with all this growing up and the hard stuff that goes with it, do I have to give up chewing on shoes?

P.S.  Don't tell Candi I'm still chewing on shoes.  She hasn't found those yet.
